Authorities in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam on Thursday evacuated dozens of people in a mountainous village after discovering a crack measuring five-meters deep and 120-meters long in the woods behind the village.
Border guards in the province said on Thursday night that all 11 households with 41 people in village 56B in Dak Pre Commune, Nam Giang District had been evacuated to safer places.
After several days of heavy downpours, residents discovered the fissure on a hill behind the village, according to local authorities.
Competent forces were subsequently dispatched to the scene to evaluate the fissure and devise a response to the issue.
Several locations in the woods were also deemed as having potential for landslides, prompting authorities to issue an evacuation order for the village.
As of 7:00 pm the same day, all Village 56B households and their assets had been removed from the area.
Bhat Chau, secretary of the Dak Pre Commune Party Committee, stated that the fissure is under close monitoring and being addressed.
