The Department for Education in South Australia has issued a call to the Vietnamese exchange students who were reported missing in Adelaide City, urging them to promptly contact local police officers to provide information about their current status, according to Australian broadcast news service 7 News.

“This is concerning for all involved and we would ask the students to make contact with the police to ensure their well-being,” the department said.

Earlier, 7 News reported that police in South Australia were investigating the whereabouts of four Vietnamese exchange students who were believed to have gone missing at different times between last month and this month.

Police officers believed that the students may have gone interstate and are not in immediate danger.

Five Vietnamese students who came to study at Hamilton Secondary College in Adelaide vanished without a trace. One of the girls has been located.

The latest missing case is Sunnie Nguyen, 17, who was last seen at her host family’s home in South Plympton, Adelaide on Monday last week.

Nguyen’s host mother May Zervaas said she had not seen the student since 11:00 pm on the day.

Nguyen was gone along with her backpack, laptop, personal papers, and some clothes.

Her phone has been disconnected and her social media accounts have been wiped.

“I hope she is OK. I’m just worried because her English is not that good," Zervaas added.

According to 7 News, Nguyen came to Adelaide City six months ago.

Nguyen's host family told police officers that she seemed happy living in Adelaide and had no reason to run away or hide.

Her visa remains active for another three years.

Meanwhile, Mi Tran, the owner of a nail shop where Nguyen has a part-time job, described her as a reliable employee.

“I’m very fortunate to have her in my team. She would be the type that would let me know if she were late for work, even five or 10 minutes (late),” Tran told 7 News.

“We are all very worried because she is the little sister of the group. We couldn’t sleep properly."
