A short circuited LED light system was believed to be the cause of a fire which swept through an automatic barrier at the Huu Nghi international border gate in Lang Son Province, northern Vietnam early on Wednesday, with no casualties reported, a local official confirmed the same day.

After detecting the fire, local forces swiftly evacuated inhabitants to safe areas and concurrently mobilized firefighters and fire trucks to the scene, where the blaze lasted for around an hour before being put out, Doan Thanh Son, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

By noon on the same day, the forces completed assessing the number of assets destroyed in the incident, which included computers, barcode readers, and smart cameras.

No one was injured and the border gate management server was unharmed.

The border gate management authority has implemented measures to address the repercussions of the fire, including deploying additional officers to the border gate to facilitate customs procedures for vehicles entering and exiting the area.

Moreover, adequate equipment has been set up to ensure efficient customs clearance processes.

The provincial police department was working to find the root cause of the incident, according to Son.

The vice-chairman also asked the competent forces in charge of managing the border gate to stay prepared for dealing with any issue arising in the run-up to the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, to ensure the smooth circulation of goods.
