-- Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong on Tuesday signed a decision commuting the death penalty to life imprisonment for five convicts.

-- Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that starting Wednesday night, a fresh cold front will impact the northern region, resulting in severe cold weather patterns.

-- Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday started piloting electronic toll collection for cars entering and leaving the airport at one of its six toll booths. 

-- Relevant units on Tuesday finished installing signs to raise the maximum speed to 90 km/h from 80 km/h on six expressway sections, namely Mai Son-National Highway 45, National Highway 45-Nghi Son, Nghi Son-Dien Chau, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet, Nha Trang-Cam Lam, and Lao Cai-Kim Thanh.

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday announced the recent dismantling of two major drug trafficking operations after conducting urgent searches of 11 residences used as storage facilities. Officers seized nearly 10kg of various synthetic drugs, over 200 ecstasy (MDMA) pills, two military guns, one sports gun, and 30 bullets. They also found 4.8kg of chemical powder and additives for drug processing, along with over 1,000 sachets and tools used in illegal drug manufacturing.

-- The police investigation agency under the Ministry of Public Security has recently uncovered an inter-provincial kidney trading ring operating in Hanoi, resulting in the prosecution and arrest of four suspects for “trafficking in human body parts.”

-- A spring festival kicked off at Tao Dan Park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday evening to celebrate the 2024 Lunar New Year.

-- Ho Chi Minh City has increased the number of venues for fireworks displays to eleven from eight to usher in the 2024 Lunar New Year.

Sports

-- Jordan upset South Korea 2-0 in their Asian Cup semi-final on Tuesday at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium where Yazan Al-Naimat and Musa Al-Taamari scored second-half goals to guide them into the final for the first time, Reuters reported.
