Tide reached its peak in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of Monday, or the third day of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, inundating several streets in the city and plaguing commuters.
The tidal water was as high as 1.61 meters on the Saigon River at 7:30 pm.
The tide is forecast to last through Tuesday, or the fourth day of the first lunar month, according to the southern weather center.
Tran Xuan Soan Street in District 7 was submerged under knee-high water at 5:30 pm on the same day, causing multiple motorcycles to break down.
Kim Cuc, a 62-year-old resident of the city, said that the water level started to rise on the morning of Monday.
Several houses along Tran Xuan Soan Street were flooded by the tidal water, she said, expressing her feeling that how sad it is to face inundation during Tet.
