Authorities in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam last weekend presented VND400 million (US$16,363) and 10 metric tons of rice to 2,000 Laotian households along the border between the two countries.
On Wednesday, border guards in Quang Tri reported that the gifts were distributed to households along the border between the Vietnamese province's Huong Hoa District and Laos' Savannakhet Province on the first and second days of this lunar year, or Saturday and Sunday last week.
In particular, provincial border guards on Saturday last week gave five metric tons of rice and VND200 million ($8,161) to over 1,000 Laotian households in eight border villages, with each household receiving five kilograms of rice and VND200,000 ($8.2).

A day later, the Huong Hoa administration presented another five metric tons of rice and VND200 million to residents in Seponh District, Savannakhet Province.
Tran Binh Thuan, the chairman of the administration of Huong Hoa District, mentioned that the gifts played a significant role in easing the challenges faced by the people in Seponh District, contributing to the promotion of solidarity between the two nations.
