-- A delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, led by Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, is attending the Singapore Airshow 2024, the biggest air show held biennially in Asia, from Tuesday to Sunday.

Society

-- The People’s Committee of Tra Vinh Province on Tuesday announced that the prime minister has recently endorsed a project constructing a coastal corridor route in the Mekong Delta province, totaling over VND9 trillion (US$366.8 million), with approximately 90 percent of the funding sourced from the Asian Development Bank.

-- Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has recently announced that in 2023, they detected and prevented over 29.6 million online attacks in Vietnam, marking a 29-percent decrease from 2022, with the rate of Vietnamese users infected by web threats recorded at 34 percent, positioning Vietnam at 67th place globally in terms of web surfing risks.

-- The People’s Committee of Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam is going to collect public input between February 26 and March 2 into a plan to turn the province into a centrally-run city.

-- Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday reported the successful treatment of a woman who experienced a severe injury, wherein her entire scalp was torn off by a yarn winding machine.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center has proposed that the municipal Department of Transport spend approximately VND14.5 billion ($591,000) on the replacement of 16 traffic lights with synchronized signals in the vicinity of Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The new system is set to be remotely controlled to alleviate congestion around the busy airport.

-- As of Tuesday evening, Lao Cai Province in northern Vietnam had effectively controlled a forest fire that spanned approximately 30 hectares in Hoang Lien National Park. The authorities successfully prevented the fire from spreading into the primary forest area by deploying around 860 personnel for firefighting efforts.

Business

-- The Vietnam Stock Exchange reported a total revenue of VND1.92 trillion ($78.2 million), marking a decrease of nearly 44 percent from 2022, while its total profit after tax amounted to VND1.88 trillion ($76.6 million), down approximately 10 percent compared to the previous year.

-- Nearly 459,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Singapore in 2023, according to the Singapore Tourism Board.
