The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has announced a list of the first 24 product and packaging recycling companies which meet the ministry’s capacity, technology, and environmental protection requirements.
Phan Tuan Hung, head of the ministry’s Department of Legal Affairs, on Thursday told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the announcement will support manufacturers and importers in fulfilling their recycling responsibilities.
Manufacturers and importers can choose and sign contracts with these recycling units or other recycling companies but must meet environmental protection requirements in line with the law.
Manufacturers and importers should consider and evaluate the ability, capacity, technology, and compliance with environmental protection regulations of recycling units prior to signing agreements with such companies.
Hung added that recycling units wishing to have their information publicized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment can make proposals to the Department of Legal Affairs.
The 24 recycling units on the list are mainly located in Bac Ninh and Hai Duong Provinces in northern Vietnam and Long An and Binh Duong Provinces in the south.
Some of these businesses are capable of recycling various kinds of products.
Earlier, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced a list of 10 companies allowed to recycle products and packaging.
Of them, five companies in the north were licensed to recycle accumulators, batteries, tires, lubricants, and vehicles, and five in the south were licensed to recycle packaging products.
Since April last year, the ministry has called on recycling companies to provide details of their operations to the Department of Legal Affairs for consideration and publication.
