Two separate road accidents on Sunday night and early Monday morning in Hoa Binh Province, northern Vietnam left six teenagers dead, with both crashes involving two motorcycles carrying three people each.
The provincial Traffic Safety Committee reported that the first accident occurred when a tractor-trailer collided with a motorcycle carrying three people in Tan Lac District, Hoa Binh, around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as 43-year-old P.T.H..
The impact left the motorcycle severely damaged, lying about 15 meters away from the tractor-trailer, with debris strewn across the road.
The second incident, which followed shortly after, involved a passenger bus.
Less than three hours later at 1:30 am on Monday, a passenger bus driven by 42-year-old N.V.D. was heading toward Hanoi on National Highway 6, before fatally colliding with a motorcycle in Tan Lac.
Images from the scene showed the bus with a damaged front and the motorcycle trapped underneath.
Both crashes killed all six motorcycle riders instantly. The victims ranged in age from 16 to 18 and were all residents of Tac Lac.
In the first ten months of 2024, more than 19,500 traffic accidents nationwide caused 8,990 deaths and 14,505 injuries, according to the General Statistics Office.
This represents an increase of 5.7 percent in traffic accidents and a 13.9-percent rise in injuries compared to 2023.
