Nearly 60 households in an apartment building in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi were evacuated to safer places on Saturday due to the emergence of cracks on the pillars of the ground floor.
The eight-story apartment building, situated on Khuong Dinh Street in Ha Dinh Ward, has been in operation since 2017.
Following the detection of cracks in certain concrete and steel pillars, local police in the ward have issued an evacuation order for the residents of the building to ensure their safety.
Cracks extending from the base to the summit of two pillars on the ground floor of the apartment block have been observed by a reporter from Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, indicating a significant risk of collapse.
Police officers directed the building management board to install steel scaffolding poles to reinforce the compromised pillars.
Residents in the apartment block noted that these cracks were initially discovered on February 9, during the festive period of the Lunar New Year (Tet), celebrated from February 8 to 14 in Vietnam.

T., a resident residing on the sixth floor of the building, highlighted the deterioration of various parts of the structure, particularly the ground floor utilized as a parking lot.
Upon evacuation, T. and family members opted to rent a house in Ha Dinh Ward while awaiting repairs.
Vo Dang Dung, chairman of the Thanh Xuan District People’s Committee, told Tuoi Tre that the administration has instructed the building management board to collaborate with professional construction units for a thorough quality assessment and subsequent repairs.
The district leader assured that residents will be able to return to their residences once the necessary upgrades are completed.
