Police in Ho Chi Minh City announced on Friday evening that they have cracked down on an illegal weapon trafficking ring, seizing 230 guns of various types, 4,750 bullets, 23 gas cylinders, 54 ammunition boxes and many other related items that were smuggled from Thailand and Cambodia for reselling in Vietnam via social media platforms.
Municipal criminal police officers coordinated with police in Districts 6, 8, 12, Binh Tan, and Hoc Mon to break up the ring led by Doan Quoc Thai, a 32-year-old resident in District 8.
Thai was assisted by Tran Ba Loc, a 27-year-old resident from Quang Ngai Province in central Vietnam, said a representative of the municipal police.

Municipal policemen found that the weapons, such as guns and bullets, were put on sale on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Zalo, and Telegram.
The two suspects smuggled the weapons from Thailand and Cambodia, hid them in various places, and then introduced them on social media. Guns were priced at tens of millions of Vietnam dong each. (VND10 million = US$405.8).
In order not to prevent the sale of the weapons, the police raided the suspected places and detained the suspects.
The municipal police are further investigating the case.
In 2019, police in District 11 fined Thai for storing dangerous toys.
