Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognized world natural heritage site in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam has welcomed more than 529,500 international tourist arrivals in the year to date, 6.4 times higher than the number of domestic visitors, the bay management board reported on Sunday.

A total of over 611,100 tourists have visited the bay during this period.

Some 145,000 tourists stayed overnight in the bay, including 9,200 Vietnamese and 135,750 foreign guests from South Korea, India, Europe, and the U.S..

Revenue from tourists to Ha Long Bay totaled VND196.4 billion (US$7.9 million).

Local authorities have regularly renewed and diversified services as well as upgraded yachts in the bay to meet international standards.

Doan Manh Tuan, representing the Ha Long Bay management board, has advised service providers to offer canned or glass bottled beverages instead of plastic bottles, aiming to protect the environment.
