A large number of walls and embankments along Son Thuy Beach in Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City, central Vietnam have been disfigured by vandalistic graffiti, thereby causing annoyance to not only local inhabitants but tourists as well.

Nguyen Thanh Vu, a 43-year-old resident in Ngu hanh Son’s Hoa Hai Ward, voiced disappointment over this act of vandalism, saying that ugly graffiti has spoiled the beach landscape.

The manager of a resort adjacent to the beach reported that the boundary walls, previously adorned with beautiful paintings by professional graffiti artists, are now defaced with unsightly illegal graffiti.

At another affected resort in the area, its owner had to hire several people to repaint the graffiti-marred walls amid a dramatic rise in vandalistic tagging.

Commenting on the issue, Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy, vice-chairwoman of the Hoa Hai Ward administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that most vandals sprayed graffiti at night, making authorities unable to thoroughly combat it.

Aside from the walls and embankments along the beach, lots of houses in the neighborhood fell victim to graffiti vandalism, the local official elaborated.

Ta Tu Binh, vice-chairman of the Ngu Hanh Son District administration, said that graffiti vandalism remains a thorny issue for local authorities to cope with.

Graffiti reappeared shortly after local authorities, hotel and resort operators in the vicinity removed them, Binh added.
