The Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center in Ho Chi Minh City has greenlit the relocation and felling of 185 trees along Vo Nguyen Giap Street for a project to connect bus routes and the first metro line in the city.

According to the center, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction and the municipal administration gave the nod to the project to improve the connectivity of bus routes with stations of the first metro line, which stretches from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Suoi Tien Theme Park in Thu Duc City, in October and November last year, respectively.

As the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport applied for a license for the project, the Thu Duc City Infrastructure Development Center approved the application.

In particular, the city will fell 37 trees and relocate 148 others.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Hoang Lam Co. Ltd. will take responsibility for moving the 148 trees to other places and taking care of them.

The project to link bus routes and 11 stations along the first metro line in Ho Chi Minh City carries a price tag of over VND93 billion (US$3.7 million).

Under the project, the city will build bus stops and vehicle parking areas, together with revitalizing sidewalks along the metro line.

The first metro line was estimated to cost VND43.7 trillion ($1.8 billion).

It is scheduled to commence commercial operation in the last quarter of this year.
