Int’l students join summer volunteer campaign in Da Nang

International students from Laos, China, Thailand, and Nigeria studying in Vietnam have put their names down for the annual Mua He Xanh (Green Summer) volunteer campaign in Da Nang City.

At a ceremony to kick off the 2024 Mua He Xanh volunteer campaign in Da Nang on Sunday, the municipal youth union and student association introduced a team of volunteers who are international students at universities and colleges in Da Nang.

The Mua He Xanh volunteer campaign will last until August.

The campaign is expected to attract more than 20,000 young people to join volunteer activities; turn at least 20 streets and alleys into green, clean, civilized, and safe places; build and repair a minimum of 12 houses; plant at least 20,000 trees; construct and upgrade 1,000 meters of rural roads; and support 3,000 disadvantaged children, Nhan Dan (People) newspaper reported.

At the ceremony, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Da Nang provided Hoa Vang District with 40 sets of chairs and tables, 40 computers, 60 scholarships, and 200 sets of textbooks worth VND850 million (US$33,329).

The union also handed over two houses valued at VND100 million ($3,921) in total to two underprivileged households in Hoa Vang, a riverside road worth VND500 million ($19,580), and two sports areas including a basketball court, a volleyball court, as well as outdoor sports facilities each costing VND3 billion ($117,544) at two dorms.

The union awarded 10 scholarships with each worth VND5 million ($196) to students in difficult circumstances.
