Police in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam said on Tuesday that they had detained a 50-year-old man, a resident of Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam, who had been on the run for over three decades for a murder committed in 1991.

The man, identified as Nguyen Van Hung, was captured in the mountainous district of Nam Giang under Quang Nam Province at 2:00 pm on Sunday last week.

Hung confessed to the murder in 1991, adding that he escaped from his hometown and traveled to Nam Giang District, Quang Nam Province after the killing.

To evade capture, he changed his full name, permanent residence, and age to live in Thanh My Town, Nam Giang District.

After the arrest, Hung was extradited to Quang Ninh Province.
