A fire caused by a woman forgetting to turn off a gas stove before leaving home killed her three children in Da Lat City, located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, on Monday morning.
The three victims were identified as six-year-old Vong Anh Khoa, four-year-old Vong Ngoc Bao An, and one-year-old Vong Minh Anh.
Their mother, 29-year-old Dau Thi Tu from north-central Nghe An Province, locked them inside their home on Nguyen Phi Y Lan Street in Ward 7, Da Lat City, before going out for grocery shopping on Monday morning.
They were staying in the back part of a house belonging to a local resident who allows Tu’s mother, 52-year-old Nguyen Thi Tam, to live there rent-free as a favor.

Tu had opened the gas stove to prepare breakfast for the children but forgot to turn it off before leaving, whereas Tam had already left for work.
At around 9:00 am on the same day, the homeowner’s family heard the children crying in Tam’s place and noticed a fire originating from there.
They attempted to break down the door to rescue the children, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Subsequently, they alerted others to help extinguish the fire, but due to its intensity, they were unable to contain it.
Local authorities initiated investigation procedures and visited the victims’ family to offer support and condolences.
The Da Lat City People’s Committee has pledged financial assistance of VND18 million (US$707) for each deceased child.
