A six-lane road, which will connect Di An City under Binh Duong Province with the new Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Thu Duc City, a district-level unit of Ho Chi Minh City, has been basically completed and is expected to open to traffic this year.

The main east-west route is viewed as one of the most spectacular roads in Di An.

The nearly-three-kilometer-long road starts at the intersection with National Highway 1K in Binh Duong Province, runs through the complex of universities under the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, and ends at the new Mien Dong Bus Station.

The project got off the ground in 2021, with an initial capital of VND274 billion (US$10.8 million), but the cost was then revised up to some VND730 billion ($28.8 million).

Some sections of the road now allow vehicles to access residential areas along the main east-west route.

The sidewalks, about three meters wide, are equipped with a system of traffic signs.

Nearly 200 light poles and eight traffic light systems have been installed along the route.

Trees line both sides of the road, and flowering plants such as paper flowers and apricot blossoms have been planted in the median strips.

Once in place, the road will enhance connectivity between the two localities and help increase the number of passengers for the bus station in Ho Chi Minh City.

The nearly-50-meter-long final section of the road connecting with Hanoi Highway and the new Mien Dong Bus Station is still facing obstacles over site clearance. Authorities and relevant units are working to remove the obstacles to quickly put the entire road into use. Photo: Ba Son / Tuoi Tre
