Four airports in northern Vietnam, including Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province, Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong City, and Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa Province, restarted their operations on Sunday morning after Yagi swept through the region on Saturday.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam announced the reopening of Noi Bai and Cat Bi on Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, Van Don International Airport received two flights operated by low-cost Vietjet this morning.

A representative of the Quang Ninh Province-based airport said that typhoon Yagi, the third storm to hit Vietnam this year, broke the glass of some doors and windows at the airport, while downing some trees there.

Efforts to address the aftermath of the super typhoon are currently underway.

Bamboo Airways announced on Sunday morning that the airline is operating flights scheduled for Sunday in order not to affect its customers' plans.

Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet also issued an announcement on the restart of their flights to and from the four airports.

The number of flights taking off and landing at these airports will be raised to meet the needs of passengers impacted by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is still facing flight delays.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Thursday afternoon announced the temporary closure of the four airports in the northern region on Saturday as super typhoon Yagi was forecast to rip through the Vietnamese mainland on that day.

After making landfall in several northern provinces on Saturday, including Hanoi in the evening, Yagi weakened into a tropical depression with winds reaching below 39 kilometers per hour, but heavy downpours are still battering northern and north-central localities, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.

At 7:00 am on Sunday, the eye of the tropical depression was located in the north-west region, moving westward at a speed of up to 15 kilometers per hour. The depression will continue lessening and disappear in the next hours.

Due to the impact of Yagi, many areas of the northern region suffered heavy downpours with rainfall of over 200 mm from 7:00 pm on Saturday to Sunday morning.

Vang Danh Ward in Uong Bi City under Quang Ninh Province reported a rain volume of 234.4 mm, while To Mua Commune in Van Ho District in Son La Province saw the precipitation reach up to 229.6 mm.

The northern region is forecast to continue facing moderate and heavy rains, paired with thunderstorms, until Monday next week, posing a high risk of flash floods and landslides.
