A trail of damage was left behind in several localities in northern Vietnam after super typhoon Yagi made landfall on Saturday, with many trees being uprooted and power poles, advertisement signs, and debris littering the streets.
As observed by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters on Sunday morning, several areas in Ha Dong and Hoai Duc Districts in Hanoi were left in a shambles after Yagi, the third storm to hit Vietnam this year, ripped through the capital city on Saturday night.
The famous Phan Dinh Phung Street saw a series of trees falling.
Anh Nguyet, a tourist from Dong Nai Province, southern Vietnam, said that she had traveled to Hanoi for sightseeing, but witnessed the significant damage caused by the super typhoon instead.
“After the typhoon, Phan Dinh Phung Street is different from that I saw on the Internet," Nguyet said.
"The street is now in a mess.
“What a pity that I could not take photos of me on the charming and famous street.”

Ngo Quang Khoi, a 65-year-old resident of Phan Dinh Phung Street, said he has lived in Hanoi since childhood but had never witnessed a storm as powerful as typhoon Yagi.
"The typhoon brought down many trees, including centuries-old ones, along the stretch from Phan Dinh Phung Street to Nguyen Bieu Street, leaving behind a heartbreaking scene," Khoi said.
After sweeping through the mainland of the northern region on Saturday, Yagi weakened into a tropical depression.
The northern region and Thanh Hoa Province, Nghe An Province, and Ha Tinh Province, north-central Vietnam experienced moderate to heavy rains, coupled with thunderstorms, early on Sunday morning, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
Residents of Ha Long City in Quang Ninh Province started to clean their houses and remove downed trees on Sunday morning after the province was hit by the storm.
Fallen trees, advertisement signs, metal roofing sheets, broken glass, and debris littered the seaside Tran Quoc Nghien Street.
Van, a resident of Hong Ha Ward in Ha Long City, said that the city had never been churned through by a powerful typhoon over the past 50 years.
The strong winds blew the roofing sheet of her house some 700 meters away, she recounted.
“The typhoon was roaring from 10:00 am till Saturday night,” she said.
Another local, Ha, said that the powerful wind tore the roof off her house.
“Though a typhoon warning had been issued, I did not think that it was so powerful. This is the most severe storm I have even been through,” she said.
