Deputy head of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies (HIDS) Truong Minh Huy Vu has been appointed new chief of the institute.
Chairman of the municipal administration Phan Van Mai announced the appointment of Vu at a ceremony held in the city on Friday morning.
As per the appointment decision, Vu will hold the post over a course of five years.
Addressing the event, the municipal chairman highlighted the crucial role of HIDS in advising the southern metropolis on developing policies and implementing measures to boost the city's growth.
Mai expressed his hope that Vu and the HIDS management would transform HIDS into an exemplary agency, collaborating with other centers to provide the city with strategic development recommendations.
The chairman emphasized the need for HIDS to research special regimes and policies and to build a team of high-quality personnel to support the city's development.
Vu thanked city authorities and HIDS for their support in helping him fulfill his assigned tasks.

The new head of HIDS pledged to join hands with relevant agencies to develop the institute into a research agency in terms of growth policies and new development models.
Vu wished to receive further support from the municipal authorities in order to accomplish his duties in the years to come.
Born in 1984 in Tien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, he received his PhD in political economy from the University of Bonn, Germany (magna cum laude) in 2014 with a full scholarship from Germany's Federal Foreign Ministry.
He has also been a senior fellow of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs since 2018.
He served as the director of the Information Technology Park at Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), deputy head of the Department of External Relations and Project Development at VNU-HCM, and inaugural director of the Center for International Studies at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
He was vice-dean and head of the International Political Department at the Faculty of International Relations at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
