Vu Tien Loc, chairman of the Vietnam International Arbitration Center, former president of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and deputy of the 15th National Assembly, passed away on Monday at the age of 64.
An official of the center confirmed Loc’s sudden death to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper the same day.
His family members are planning to organize a funeral for him, the official said.
Besides, a VCCI official said that Loc died at 5:00 am in Hanoi.
Born in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam in 1960, Loc held a doctorate in economics and a certificate in advanced political theory. He taught at many universities at home and abroad.
Loc had been a deputy of the lawmaking National Assembly for many years, from the 11th to 15th tenures.
At the time of his death, he was also a member of the National Assembly Economic Committee.
Loc served as president of the VCCI for 18 years during the 2003-21 period.
He held several key posts such as member of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, vice-president of the National Council on Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Enhancement, vice-chairman of the Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform of the Prime Minister, chairman of the Central Council of Vietnam Business Associations, and chairman of the Vietnam Business Forum Consortium.
Loc was appreciated for his influence on the National Assembly and the development of the Vietnamese business community.
