Northern Vietnam may see heavy downpours from Sunday through Wednesday, putting the area at risk of flash floods, landslides, and inundation, according to the national weather agency.

More than 250mm of rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, is forecast to hit many parts of the region during the period.

The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting highlighted a high possibility of downpours in the evening and at night, warning low-lying and mountainous areas of flash floods, landslides, and flooding.

Intense rainfall could also cause floods in rivers and streams across the region, leaving a negative impact on waterway transportation, aquatic farming, agro-production, and daily activities.

The national weather agency said in its announcement issued at 4:30 pm on Sunday that flash floods and landslides may batter 14 northern provinces, including Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa.
