The management board of the Ban Gioc Waterfall Tourism Site under the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Cao Bang Province in northern Vietnam has announced the temporary suspension of tour services to Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls, which straddles the Vietnam-China border, from Sunday last week until further notice.
The board has requested that travel companies inform their customers of the suspension so they can adjust their plans accordingly.
The suspension is due to an incident that occurred on the Chinese side of the scenic area.
Travel companies are required to refund tourists who had booked and paid for tours to the Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls or to provide suitable alternatives.
In the meantime, the board advises tourists to avoid registering for tours to the Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls until further notice.
However, domestic travel services at the Ban Gioc Waterfall on the Vietnamese side are still available.
The Ban Gioc - Detian Waterfalls were opened to tourists on a trial basis beginning September 15 last year.
This trial period is scheduled to continue until September 14, 2024.
After 10 months, nearly 950 delegations with some 12,000 visitors have crossed the border to admire the waterfalls.
A visa is not compulsory for Vietnamese and Chinese citizens to enter the destination.
Instead, they must show their passports and conduct exit and entry procedures.
The site is not open to travelers from a third country during the pilot period.
During the trial operation, Vietnamese tourists are exempt from the entrance charge, while Chinese are subject to a fee of VND70,000 (US$2.8) per person.
Ban Gioc Waterfall in Vietnam lies in Dam Thuy Commune, Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province, while China’s Detian Waterfall is situated in Guangxi Province.
