Work on the Duong Quang Ham Street expansion and upgrade project in Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City is being sped up in order to prepare the expanded street for traffic at the end of 2024, with the first section already taking shape.

The project got off the ground in August last year, spanning from Binh Thanh District to the Go Vap cultural park, at a total cost of VND2.3 trillion (US$92 million).

The route will be widened to six lanes with a total width of 32 meters.

Workers are intensifying efforts to relocate technical infrastructure in order to expand sections of the street where the site has already been cleared and handed over.

However, 25 affected households have yet to transfer their land to the investor, the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City.

Luong Minh Phuc, the authority’s director, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the investor is urging contractors to speed up the project’s construction so the 2.5-kilometer-long expanded street can open to traffic by the end of 2024.

"However, we need support from local authorities and relevant agencies for site handover and the relocation of technical infrastructure," Phuc said.

Duong Quang Ham Street is a key route in Go Vap District but frequently experiences traffic jams during rush hour.

Once completed, the expanded street will ease commutes, improve traffic flow, and reduce congestion on neighboring streets like Phan Van Tri, Le Duc Tho, and Quang Trung.
