-- Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam To Lam will head a Party Central Committee delegation to visit and work in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday.

-- The 13th Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam elected Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, and Minister of Public Security, to the Politburo at a meeting held in Hanoi on Friday.

-- A Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang attended the 9th Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Friday, which gathered representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and China.

-- A massive fire broke out at a bar undergoing renovation in downtown Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District on Friday evening, leaving several injured, including a firefighter.

-- The State Securities Commission of Vietnam has imposed an administrative fine of nearly VND400 million (US$15,960) on Cencon Vietnam JSC, a jewelry, electric car, and real estate business in Lao Cai Province, northern Vietnam, for violating information disclosure regulations.  

-- A seven-seater car driver was killed on the spot after being thrown from his car during a severe head-on collision with a trailer truck in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, southern Vietnam on Friday afternoon.

-- The Coast Guard Region 3 Command confirmed on Friday that they had teamed up with police in Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam to crack down on a drug trafficking case, detaining one man and one woman, both aged 38, for allegedly transporting more than four kilograms of illicit drugs from southern Vietnam to the provincial city of Nha Trang on August 12.

-- The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control on Friday raised its risk level for mpox, a day after global health officials confirmed the first infection with a new strain of the virus outside Africa, in Sweden, Reuters reported.

-- The number of people killed when a mountain of garbage collapsed in Uganda's capital last week has risen to 35, 12 of whom were young people, Reuters cited police as saying on Friday.
