-- Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam left Hanoi on Sunday morning for a state visit to China through Tuesday next week.

-- A 29-seater coach overturned after its driver braked sharply to avoid a motorbike in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on Saturday, causing 18 people to be hospitalized, local authorities reported the same day.

-- Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday worked with a group of people getting involved in a video depicting two young men lying on two motorbikes' seats and swiftly overtaking a car on a section of Pham Van Dong Boulevard in Go Vap District in a lane for cars.

-- Vietnam's state-run lottery company Vietlott reported its pre-tax profit at nearly VND212 billion (US$8.5 million) in the first half of this year, the highest for the period over the past six years.

-- “About 68 million people in Southern Africa are suffering the effects of an El Nino-induced drought which has wiped out crops across the region,” Reuters cited the regional bloc SADC to say on Saturday.

-- “A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck off the east coast of Russia's Kamchatka region at a depth of 51 km (32 miles),” Reuters reported, quoting the European Mediterranean Seismological Center on Saturday.
