A storm reached the mainland from Quang Binh to Quang Tri Provinces in central Vietnam before weakening to tropical depression on Thursday afternoon, said the national weather agency.
At 2:00 pm, the tropical depression was located in the mainland from Quang Binh to Quang Tri, packing maximum sustained winds of over 60 kilometers per hour near its center.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that the system is likely to move further inland and gradually weaken.
Due to the impact of the storm, the fourth to hit Vietnam this year, several locations like Con Co Island off the coast of Quang Tri Province, Ky Anh District in Ha Tinh Province, and Le Thuy District in Quang Binh Province experienced powerful winds.
Heavy rainfall lashed multiple areas from Ha Tinh Province to Thua Thien-Hue Province on Thursday morning.
Authorities and residents from the north-central province of Nghe An to Thua Thien-Hue were told to stay alert to possible erosion of dykes and flooding in low-lying areas on Thursday afternoon.
Over the next two days, precipitation of 100-250mm is expected from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri Provinces.
