Heavy rain caused severe flooding in parts of Thai Nguyen Province, northern Vietnam on Thursday, swamping streets and sweeping cars away for dozens of meters.
Rainfall of more than 100mm lashed vast swathes of northern Vietnam, including Hanoi and the mountainous province of Thai Nguyen, mostly from the afternoon until midnight, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
In Thai Nguyen City under the namesake province, a three-hour-long downpour in the evening left lots of streets waterlogged and brought traffic to a standstill.
A four-seater car and a taxi were swept away by floodwaters along Z115 Street and Hoang Gia Street.
A large number of cars and motorcycles suffered engine problems when traveling on heavily-flooded roads such as Quang Trung.
Rainwater submerged the sidewalks at Luong Ngoc Quyen - Hoang Van Thu Intersection, sweeping away many vehicles.
In the capital city of Hanoi, intense rainfall also resulted in flooding across many roads.
The national weather agency warned of further downpours, accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, and powerful gusts in parts of the northern region on Friday.
