-- President of the Australian Senate Sue Lines visited Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature – Imperial Academy), Vietnam’s first university, in Hanoi on Saturday afternoon, as part of her ongoing official visit to Vietnam through August 30, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Society

-- The family of a 32-year-old man who was declared brain dead on Friday after a traffic accident in Hanoi decided to donate his organs, including his heart, liver, corneas, and two kidneys, to revive five others, Xanh Pon Hospital in Hanoi reported.

-- A collision between a coach and two motorbikes on the Rach Mieu Bridge in southern Vietnam on Saturday claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and caused traffic congestion on the bridge and the nearby Rach Mieu Ferry for four hours.

-- Police in Ben Cau District, southern Tay Ninh Province said they had launched legal proceedings against a 28-year-old man over allegations of violating regulations on protection of rare and endangered wild animals. He was caught red-handed transporting seven clouded monitors on August 15.

-- Torrential downpours between Thursday and Saturday caused the water levels in rivers and streams in Cao Bang Province, northern Vietnam to rise, resulting in landslides and inundation on many streets and over 145 hectares of farmland, according to the office of the provincial steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue.

Business

-- Packaged food producer Kido Group Corporation has reported to the State Securities Commission of Vietnam its completion of a transaction to increase its holding at Hung Vuong JSC, the operator of Hung Vuong Plaza, to 58.05 percent from 39.41 percent.

-- Vietnamese fish sauce producer SEAGULL Co. Ltd. has exported its first batch of fish sauce products to the U.S., including vegan fish sauce.

Education

-- Vietnam is currently hosting nearly 22,000 international students, the highest number in the past nine years, the Vietnam News Agency cited the Ministry of Education and Training as saying.

World News

-- "Two NASA astronauts who flew to the International Space Station in June aboard Boeing's faulty Starliner capsule will need to return to Earth on a SpaceX vehicle early next year," Reuters quoted NASA officials to say, deeming issues with Starliner's propulsion system too risky to carry its first crew home as planned.
