Daily life and traffic were thrown into disarray as a heavy downpour from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm on Monday caused severe flooding to many downtown streets in Can Tho City, southern Vietnam.
Streets such as Tran Viet Chau, Cach Mang Thang Tam, April 30, Vo Van Kiet, and Tran Van Hoai in Ninh Kieu District were deeply submerged in water.
Several parts in Cai Rang and Binh Thuy Districts also endured heavy inundation.

Traffic jams worsened as the downpour hit this Mekong Delta city during rush hour, making it difficult for parents to pick up their children from school and for people to commute home from work.
Nguyen Huong Giang, hailing from Ninh Kieu District, elaborated that she rode her motorbike from work to her child’s school, but the severe flooding at the intersection of April 30 Street and Tran Hoang Na Street trapped her bike there.
After more than an hour of struggling to move, she called a taxi but even the cab failed to wade through the flooded section.
She eventually had to ask her child’s teacher to look after the kid for a while.

By around 7:00 pm the same day, many roads were still waterlogged and congested.
Several local residents said that this was the most severe flooding since the beginning of the rainy season this year.
The southern city is expected to experience further severe inundation caused by high tides around the 15th of the ninth lunar month, which falls on October 17.
