Police in Lam Dong Province, part of Vietnam’s Central Highlands, arrested on Thursday a woman on suspicion of murdering her lover with cyanide and attempting to stage his death as a car accident.
At approximately 2:30 pm on Monday, officials from Bao Loc City, a city in Lam Dong, and traffic police officers were alerted to a crash involving a five-seater Honda HR-V that had plunged off a cliff on Bao Loc Pass, located in the city’s Dai Lao Commune.
The crash occurred along National Highway 20 connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat, the capital of Lam Dong.
The vehicle fell about 50 meters into a ravine filled with brush and banana trees, sustaining extensive damage.
Local rescue teams and firefighters swiftly responded to the scene.
Two people were in the car, with the man identified as M.H.V. and pronounced dead at the scene.
The female driver, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, 39, from Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam was taken to Lam Dong General Hospital in stable condition.
However, police noticed irregularities at the crash site, leading to a further investigation.
They determined that Trang had killed V., 39, from Ho Chi Minh City, over a personal conflict.
Investigators revealed that Trang had allegedly purchased cyanide online and poisoned V. on Sunday, during a car trip from Dong Thap to Ho Chi Minh City.

The next day, Trang transported his body to Bao Loc Pass, attempting to dispose of it.
Failing to find a suitable location, she drove the car off the cliff to make the incident appear as a fatal traffic accident.
The woman initially confessed to using cyanide to kill V., motivated by jealousy and a romantic conflict.
Before taking his life, Trang tested the poison by feeding it to a cat to ensure it was lethal.
She explained that recently, in addition to their relationship, V. had begun seeing another woman, which filled her with anger.
On the morning of October 21, Trang drove V.'s body to Lam Dong Province from Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Lam Dong provincial police, Trang stated that she spent a considerable amount of time near Bao Loc Pass searching for a place to discard the body to conceal her crime.
Unable to find a suitable location, she then steered the car off the cliff in an attempt to "end [her] own life."
After the incident, rescue teams found Trang outside the car with minor scratches.
When questioned, she admitted to being the driver, explaining that she was returning from Da Lat and crawled out of the vehicle after the crash.
Based on Trang’s statement and evidence gathered from the scene investigation and the victim's autopsy, Lam Dong police issued an emergency arrest warrant for her to further their probe.
