A guest reported finding a snail crawling on a plate of fresh vegetables, spoiled fruit, and tainted meat during a meal at a four-star hotel in Da Lat – a tourist city in Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province.

The Da Lat People's Committee on Thursday established an interagency team to conduct a comprehensive inspection of N.L. Hotel’s lodging and restaurant services.

L.Q., a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, who stayed at N.L. Hotel on October 28 and 29, reported to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that there was a snail crawling on a plate of fresh vegetables, spoiled fruit, and tainted meat being served during a meal at the venue’s restaurant.

During an unannounced inspection into the hotel, a representative of N.L. Hotel admitted that the hotel’s fresh vegetables had a snail, adding that the incident resulted from the negligence of kitchen staff.

As for the tainted meat, the inspection team had yet to make a final conclusion.

On Wednesday morning, Nguyen Van Coi, head of the health division in Da Lat, inspected N.L. Hotel’s kitchen himself, saying the hotel had not been storing any food.

N.L. Hotel’s kitchen is situated next to a sewer that is not fully covered, emitting a foul smell.

According to Coi, the kitchen was also messy and lacked appropriate food preservation and garbage treatment processes.

The kitchen was found to have violations related to the operation of its cold and cool storage facilities.

"There are numerous issues in the kitchen. As for food quality, we will take samples for analysis to ensure we have a solid basis for handling the situation according to regulations," Coi added.
