-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued a resolution earmarking 11 sites for transit-oriented development along metro lines and beltways.
-- From Sunday to Tuesday, the central region -- particularly the area from Ha Tinh Province to Da Nang City -- is expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with totals ranging from 200 to 400mm. In some areas, the precipitation may exceed 500mm and this pattern is likely to continue for several days.
-- Authorities are urgently evacuating 13 households, comprising 60 people, from the foot of a mountain in Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam after a long crack was discovered there following heavy rains and floods.
-- The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security announced on Friday that police in District 1 had initiated legal proceedings against a hotel housekeeper for stealing €2,000 (US$2,176) from a French tourist.
-- According to the International Diabetes Federation, 7.1 percent of adults in Vietnam had diabetes in 2021.
-- Da Nang City plans to improve the appeal of public toilets by adding commercial services at facilities along tourist routes. This idea was discussed at a Friday meeting between the municipal People’s Council and local voters.
Business
-- Siam Cement Group, Thailand’s largest cement maker and industrial conglomerate, has suspended operations at its Long Son Petrochemicals complex in Vietnam in order to cope with high production costs and the impact of a downturn in the global petrochemical market.
-- According to the Ministry of Finance, state budget revenue is estimated at VND1.654 quadrillion ($65.38 billion) for January to October, accounting for 97.2 percent of the 2024 target.
Education
-- The American International School Vietnam, located in Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, unexpectedly notified parents on Friday of its plans to reopen in January 2025, despite not yet receiving approval from the municipal Department of Education and Training. The school has been suspended for 12 months since July 1 due to its failure to demonstrate compliance with educational regulations.
