Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ratified a nine-day break for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, spanning from January 25 to February 2, according to the Government Office’s announcement.
The Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, is the biggest festival of the year for Vietnamese.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs had earlier proposed the nine-day holiday, including five days promulgated by the 2019 Labor Code and the other four on the weekends before and after the new year, for public workers.
In particular, workers will be entitled to a five-day break for Tet, from Monday, January 27, to Friday, January 31.
However, these five days fall on weekdays, so workers will enjoy two extra weekend days before Tet and two more after the Tet holiday.
This schedule allows workers to have more time with their families while boosting tourism, the Government Office said.
For Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers' Day (May 1), workers will enjoy a five-day break from Wednesday, April 30, to Sunday, May 4.
The 2025 National Day (September 2) holiday is scheduled to last for four days, from August 30 to September 2.
According to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, the long holiday will help workers regenerate labor power and boost tourism and economic growth.
From 2021, Vietnam has mandated a total of 11 days off for public holidays, including five days for the Lunar New Year holiday, two days for the National Day holiday, and one day each for the New Year holiday, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the Reunification Day, and International Workers' Day.
Apart from these holidays, foreign workers in Vietnam are permitted to have one day off for their home country's National Day.
