After being abandoned for seven years, Phung Khoang Lake Park in Hanoi opened its doors to the public on Wednesday following a directive of the chairman of the municipal People’s Committee.
The park, located in Nam Tu Liem District, was set to be put into use before the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday (Tet), which is due on January 29, to serve residents and tourists.
Several parts of the park, exclusive of the lake, are ready for public use.
The investors of the project, including Hanoi Housing Development and Investment Corporation, and Investment and Urban Construction JSC, are responsible for completing the remaining components in line with the approved design and ensuring the quality of the project.
Additionally, they will also finalize quality management documentation and legal paperwork, and conduct frequent maintenance at the park, as well as ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of the park.
Local authorities in Nam Tu Liem District will work closely with the investors to maintain order, security, and safety during the park’s operation.
After the establishment of a municipal steering committee for wastefulness prevention, Hanoi chairman Tran Sy Thanh chaired a meeting on November 20 last year to address the long-stalled Phung Khoang Lake Park project to avoid wastefulness.
The chairman ordered drastic action, emphasizing the need to open the park before the Lunar New Year holiday.
He assigned Hanoi deputy chairman Duong Duc Tuan to oversee the site clearance process to ensure the cleared site set for the project could be handed over to the investors prior to December 15, 2024 so that the remaining components could proceed without delay.
The chairman also hinted at organizing a fireworks display at the park during the upcoming Tet celebrations so that local residents could enjoy both the park and the festive atmosphere.
Phung Khoang Lake Park, situated on To Huu Street in Trung Van Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, was designed to span over 11.8 hectares.
The project was delayed for seven years, with many of its facilities having already deteriorated and becoming overgrown as previously reported by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
The lake in Phung Khoang Lake Park was murky, covered in green moss, and emitted a foul odor.
Initiated in 2016 with an original anticipated completion in 2017, the project was envisioned to become a daily destination for relaxation and exercise.
However, over seven years since its inception, the park remains unfinished due to persistent delays.
