Ho Chi Minh City is set to experience its first widespread heatwave of the dry season, with temperatures soaring above 35 degrees Celsius across central districts in the final days of February, according to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center.
In the first half of the month, temperatures remained relatively mild, with only isolated hot days in the downtown area.
However, heat spikes above 35 degrees Celsius were brief, followed by rapid cooldowns.
For the second half of February, the southern metropolis will possibly see more persistent heat, with widespread high temperatures expected toward the end of the month.
The hottest days are predicted to reach 32-35 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.
Despite the scorching daytime temperatures, isolated showers and thunderstorms are still possible, particularly in the afternoons and evenings.
These rain showers may come with lightning, strong winds, and even localized storms.
The regional weather agency noted that these unseasonal rains could negatively impact certain crops.
Following recent off-season rainfall caused by a low-pressure trough, the city’s weather is now transitioning back to sunny and dry conditions.
Authorities advised residents to stay hydrated, take precautions against extreme heat, and remain vigilant against fire hazards as humidity levels drop across the city.
