In a major environmental cleanup effort, over 100 metric tons of waste was removed from Chien Luoc Canal, which runs through Binh Tri Dong A and Tan Tao Wards in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, as well as from a canal near Ong Bup Bridge from March 19 to 24.
Binh Tan Service Cooperative said on Tuesday that after just six working days, it, in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Urban Environment Co. Ltd. and other authorities, had removed over 100 metric tons of garbage, mainly household waste and grass.
The initiative was led by the People’s Committees of Binh Tri Dong A Ward and Tan Tao Ward in the district.
Dozens of people joined the cleanup operation, while excavators, boats, and winches were used to help with waste removal.

The trash was transported via waste trucks for proper disposal and processing.
Additionally, on March 23, the Binh Tan District Youth Union launched a cleanup campaign along Chien Luoc Canal, with more than three metric tons of waste collected.
These cleanup initiatives came in response to growing concerns from local residents, who had reported a significant accumulation of waste in the area, which caused unpleasant odors.
On March 17, some residents contacted Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, expecting local authorities to take swift action to address the pollution.
The Tan Tao Ward People's Committee on the same day announced plans to report the issue to the Binh Tan District administration for further action.
