A 23-year-old female truck driver from Nam Dinh Province, northern Vietnam has been fined VND133 million (US$5,200) for running red lights seven times within two weeks, a local traffic police division said on Friday.
In addition to the financial penalty, she is subjected to a deduction of four points from her 12-point driver's license and a temporary license suspension until the fine is fully paid, as per Vietnam’s newly enforced traffic regulations.
The driver was caught on surveillance camera committing the traffic violations at the Tan Binh Intersection in Thai Binh City of neighboring Thai Binh Province.
Surveillance footage revealed that the truck, registered in Nam Dinh, ran red lights five times between February 19 and 25, and twice more between February 26 and March 4.
During questioning, the driver admitted to repeatedly running red lights while delivering meals from Nam Dinh to a company in the Nguyen Duc Canh Industrial Park, located in Thai Binh City.
She claimed she failed to observe the traffic signals and mistakenly believed she was permitted to turn left on a red light.
The driver has committed to adhering to traffic regulations and will pay the fine.
