Vietnam suffered a 1-2 defeat to Jordan during their opener at the 2018 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-19 Championship in Indonesia on Friday.
Vietnam started the game with a high spirit and constantly created so much pressure to Jordan’s goal that the Jordanian striker Mohammad Alzu'bi got a yellow card for high boot at the 18th minutes.
Only three minutes after that incident, Vietnam were able to open the scoring when Manh Dung headed the ball into Jordan’s net.
However, Mohamed Atieh equalized for Jordan eight minutes later as the Vietnamese defense line let him have a chance to face its goalkeeper.
The Vietnamese defense line continued to worry their team when they made many mistakes, allowing their opponents to launch various attacks with their physical advantage.
The two teams headed for the locker room when the score remained 1-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Mohammad Alzu'bi scored his second goal at the 89th minute to settle the game at 2-1 for Jordan.
With this defeat, the door to the next round for Vietnam has been narrowed down. Vietnam will next play Australia on Monday, October 20 and South Korea on October 25.
The 2018 AFC U-19 Championship is the 40th edition of the biennial international youth football championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's under-19 national teams of Asia.
