Racers from Can Tho City bagged all awards at the 2023 National Composite Boat Racing Championship held in the Mekong Delta city on Monday.
The 2023 National Composite Boat Racing Championship, the third edition of the race, was organized on Cai Khe Canal in Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City through a collaborative effort between the municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Sports Authority of Vietnam.
This year’s competition featured the participation of nearly 70 racers representing 14 different units from Ca Mau Province, Kien Giang Province, Long An Province, Dong Thap Province, Ho Chi Minh City, and eight districts within Can Tho.
The athletes competed over a 600-meter course, utilizing a 5.9-meter long composite hull powered by a 7HP gasoline engine and an AB propeller.
Following intense and thrilling competition among the racers, Tran Bao Hieu and Le Van Thai, both hailing from Phong Dien District in Can Tho, secured the first and second positions, earning prizes of VND50 million (US$2,074) and VND30 million ($1,245), respectively.
Do Thanh Nghiem, representing Thot Not District of Can Tho, clinched the third prize and was awarded a cash amount of VND20 million ($830), while Le Minh Bang from Phong Dien District taken home the fourth prize.
Each prize package also included a 7HP Genesis-GS210 gasoline engine, a composite hull, and an AB stainless steel propeller.
Can Tho’s first and second composite boat championships were held in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
