Three players from the U.S. made their debut for Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Football Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The team added the three new foreign players -- midfielder Tatiana Mason, center-back Talani Barnett, and striker Root Medhan Callahan -- to compete in the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25, which is being held for the first time.
The Asian Football Confederation has selected Ho Chi Minh City to host Group C games, scheduled for October 6 to 12, at Thong Nhat Stadium in District 10.
The new players arrived in Vietnam on Monday evening and were already present at Tao Dan Stadium in District 1 for training with Ho Chi Minh City FC on Tuesday afternoon.
They showed excitement and eagerly introduced themselves to their new teammates.
During the 40-minute training session, Mason, Barnet, and Callahan participated in light drills.

After the training, Mason, who previously competed in the USL W League in the U.S., shared that Vietnam is the fourth country where she has played.
She expressed her happiness about her debut and noted the enthusiasm and kindness of her new teammates, hoping for a positive experience with the team.
Callahan, who has experience competing in Canada and Iceland, also thanked the team for the warm welcome.
Although she is not very familiar with Vietnamese football, she is aware of the strong teams in the country and is excited about competing in the AFC Women’s Champions League.
Meanwhile, Barnett once played for Ohio State FC in the U.S..
On Tuesday afternoon, Ho Chi Minh City FC had only about ten players available for training, as key footballers like Huynh Nhu and Tran Thi Thuy Trang were engaged with the women’s national team in Hanoi.
The coaching staff members are planning a friendly match for the three foreign players on Wednesday afternoon.
