The Vietnamese women’s futsal team have climbed two spots to 11th in the world in the October rankings, as announced by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
Previously, when FIFA first announced the men’s and women’s futsal rankings in early May, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team were ranked 13th in the world, while the men’s team were placed 33rd.
In the latest rankings released on Friday, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team moved up two spots to 11th, while the men’s team dropped one place to 34th.
This outcome is not surprising, as the Vietnamese women’s team have recently achieved impressive results in two international friendly tournaments over the past three months.
They finished as runners-up at the International Women’s Futsal Friendly Tournament 2024 in China in July and clinched victory at the NSDF Women’s Futsal Championship 2024 in Thailand at the end of September, including a 2-2 draw with the Thai women’s team, which are ranked sixth in the world.
On the other hand, the Vietnamese men’s futsal team’s failure to qualify for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan has hindered their ability to accumulate points, resulting in a drop in their ranking.
The Thai men’s futsal team also fell two spots to 11th in the world after losing 5-2 to France in the round of 16 of the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Both the Brazilian men’s and women’s futsal teams hold the No. 1 position in the October rankings.
Notably, this latest ranking sees five new women’s futsal teams making their debut — namely Fiji in 62nd, Tahiti in 66th, Norway in 68th, Solomon Islands in 73rd, and Tonga in 74th.
Currently, the Vietnamese men’s futsal team are training in Ho Chi Minh City in preparation for the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship in Thailand early next month.
