Vietnam’s Thep Xanh Nam Dinh secured a spot in the 2024-25 AFC Champions League Two knockout stage with a commanding 3-0 victory over Hong Kong’s Lee Man in their Group G match at Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh Province on Wednesday.

First-half goals from Lucas Silva, To Van Vu, and Nguyen Xuan Son sealed the win for Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, who moved to 11 points and booked a ticket to the knockout stage with a match to spare.

They will face Bangkok United next week to determine the group winners, with the Thai side also having clinched a spot in the next round.

Thep Xanh Nam Dinh started Wednesday’s match at a fast pace, quickly overwhelming the visitors.

After several missed chances, midfielder Lucas Silva broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a clinical shot just outside the penalty area.

Following the goal, the hosts controlled the tempo of the game.

Lee Man attempted to build attacks near Thep Xanh Nam Dinh keeper Tran Nguyen Manh’s goal but failed to break through.

In the 29th minute, Nguyen Van Vi caused confusion in Lee Man’s defense, allowing teammate To Van Vu to score the second goal for the home team.

Just before half-time, striker Nguyen Xuan Son converted a penalty in the 43rd minute, extending Thep Xanh Nam Dinh’s lead to 3-0.

With the game effectively decided in the first half, the hosts played with more freedom in the second, but their strikers squandered several opportunities.

In the end, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh secured a 3-0 victory over Lee Man.

Earlier in Group G, Singapore’s Tampines Rovers defeated Thailand’s Bangkok United 1-0. However, the win was not enough to keep their tournament hopes alive, leading to their elimination.

In the next fixtures on December 4, already-eliminated Lee Man will host Tampines Rovers at Mong Kok Stadium as both teams close out their continental campaign.
