The Hong Kong-based World Records Association (WRA) in October acknowledged five world culinary records set by Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese record organization VietKings.

These five world records of Vietnam had been recognized by the World Records Union (WorldKings) in late 2020, VietKings reported.

This is the first time that Vietnam has held five culinary records granted by two world organizations at the same time, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

WRA certified five world records of Vietnamese cuisine: the country that owns the most 'strand and broth' dishes in the world, the country that owns the most kinds of mam (fermented fish) and dishes made from mam with typical flavors in the world, the country that owns the world’s most dishes made from flowers, the country that owns the most kinds of special rolls in the world, and the country that owns the world’s most dishes made from rice flour.

Vietnamese dishes strike a balance between distinct flavors such as sour, spicy, salty, sweet, bitter, as well as a balance of nutrition, according to Le Tran Truong An, general director of VietKings.

“Such dishes deserve to become culinary heritage that needs to be preserved and promoted," An said.

"They are truly the quintessential values of Vietnamese cuisine passed down from the ancestors and constantly fine-tuned by chefs over time."

VietKings also revealed that the organization is finalizing a dossier to nominate six new culinary records to WorldKings and WRA, including the country that owns the world’s most attractive and diverse street food cuisine, the country with the most souvenir and specialty items in the world, the country that owns the most homemade dishes with distinctiveness and appeal in the world, the country that owns the most xoi (steamed rice) and che (sweet soup) dishes in the world, the country that has the most natural and unique spice items in the world, and the biggest producer and exporter of Robusta coffee with the world’s most distinctive Robusta coffee culture.

In 2016, Vietnamese pho (noodle soup with beef or chicken), bun cha (rice noodles with grilled pork), and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) were listed among the world’s top 100 famous foods by WorldKings, the Vietnam Government Portal reported.
