The eighth Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival kicked off on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1 on Saturday evening with the participation of many popular artists, beauty queens, athletes, and TV hosts.

Organized by the municipal Department of Tourisms and Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union, the ‘I Love Vietnamese Ao Dai’ festival is scheduled to run from March 5 to April 15,

Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie, acrobat brothers Giang Quoc Co and Giang Quoc Nghiep, singer Kyo York, star track-and-field athlete Le Tu Chinh, and other popular artists, singers, and TV hosts are the ambassadors of this year’s event.

The Ao Dai Festival, which was first held in 2014, is one of the most beautiful and creative ideas come up with by the city’s tourism and cultural sectors, vice-chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee Phan Thi Thang said at the opening ceremony.

The fest is aimed at attracting more visitors to the city as well as contributing to preserving and honoring Vietnam's traditional ao dai, Thang continued.

“The eighth Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival is a testament to the vibrancy, strength, vitality, and belief in the future of Ho Chi Minh City,” the official stated.

“It also affirms the strong and fast comeback of the city’s tourism industry following the serious COVID-19 outbreak.”

During the ceremony, participants enjoyed 15 ao dai collections with more than 300 designs by famous brands and designers.

Among them, the collection of Anna Hanh was presented by amateur models who are doctors, medic staff, and businesswomen with great contributions to the city’s fight against the pandemic.

The ceremony ended with the collection of Nguyen Viet Hung donned by 100 artists and ambassadors of the festival.

Throughout the fest, various activities including a parade, contests, an art program, and programs for tourists, students, and local residents will be organized.
