International Day of Yoga to be held in southern Vietnam in June and July

The 8th International Day of Yoga will be organized in Ho Chi Minh City and 14 other provinces and cities in southern Vietnam this month, the Consulate General of India announced at a conference on Tuesday. 

In Ho Chi Minh City, the event will take place between 6:00 am and 8:00 am on June 21 at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1, with around 1,000 enthusiasts expected to join the mass performance of yoga poses. known as asanas.

The Ho Chi Minh City event is jointly presented by the Consulate General of India, Department of External Relations in Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, and Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam.

“Vietnam is the friendliest country to India,” Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City Madan Mohan Sethi stated at Tuesday's conference.

“The relationship between President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has no parallel in history.

“Our engagement at the highest level continues to the present day.

“Celebration of International Day of Yoga, a traditional and mindful practice originating from India, shall become a remarkable point in our series of activities to celebrate the 50th year of diplomatic relations between India and Vietnam.”

Besides Ho Chi Minh City, 14 other provinces and cities in southern Vietnam will also jointly celebrate the International Day of Yoga with the Consulate General of India in June and July.

The localities include Binh Dinh Province, Phu Yen Province, Khanh Hoa Province, Ninh Thuan Province, Binh Thuan Province, Dak Nong Province, Dak Lak Province, Binh Phuoc Province, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Dong Nai Province, Dong Thap Province, Can Tho City, Tien Giang Province, and Soc Trang Province.

The International Day of Yoga celebration is expected to become a great platform for yoga enthusiasts to showcase and share their passions for achieving a healthy lifestyle, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City said in a press release on Tuesday. 

On December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, aiming to raise worldwide awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga, an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India.

This year's 'Yoga for Humanity' was chosen as the theme for the International Day of Yoga in keeping with the spirit of humanity's collective quest to promote a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with planet Earth in light of a worldwide resumption of normal life after the COVID-19 pandemic.
