The 2022 Day of Pho Gala was organized at Vi Xuyen Park in Vinh Phuc Province, northern Vietnam on Sunday.

The event saw the attendance of local leaders, representatives of nearly 20 diplomatic missions in Vietnam, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, sponsors, artists, domestic and foreign press, many Vietnamese pho brands, and especially thousands of local residents.

After five years of being organized in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, the sixth Day of Pho 12-12, first initiated by Tuoi Tre in 2017, was brought to Nam Dinh Province – a place with great merit in the development of pho.

The organizing board wished to have a convergence of all the quintessence of pho by introducing many different versions of the dish from different regions.

La Quoc Khanh, vice-president of the Vietnam Cuisine Culture Association, said at the opening ceremony that the association appreciated Tuoi Tre creating the Day of Pho in 2017 to contribute to the promotion of the country’s national dish.

Tickets to the 2022 Day of Pho Gala at Vi Xuyen Park was sold at VND10,000 (US$0.4) apiece.

All money from ticket sales will go to the Loving Pho Car, dedicated to serving children with cerebral palsy and their family members in Nam Dinh City, the provincial capital, on Monday afternoon.

With each ticket, participants can exchange for one bowl of pho served by nearly 100 stalls inside the event area.

Nguyen Thi Mai, a resident in Nam Dinh City, said she had bought four tickets to be able to try many types of pho.

The pho stalls were scheduled to begin serving participants at 10:00 am, but many people had already queued up in front of the stalls prior to this time.

As of 11:00 am, seven stalls of pho brands in Nam Dinh Province had sold out.

Vu Thi Oanh, owner of one of these stalls, said she had served nearly 300 bowls.

The pho stalls were scheduled to continue serving participants at 4:30 pm the same day.
