Young couples in Vietnam have added baking workshops to the list of activities for their Valentine’s Day celebrations.

At a workshop held by Dai Tin F&B in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1 ahead of the occasion, a small group of attendees were given ingredients and shown how to bake by a professional.

With a fee of VND120,000 (US$5), attendees can bring their cake or pastry home after the workshop.

According to baker Dang Que Ngan, each type of cake requires a different amount of time and effort.

“For example, it normally takes around an hour to make our Valentine Craquelin,” Ngan said.

“Bakers need to pay attention to adjusting the oven to the proper temperature not to ruin the crust.”

Le Nguyen Yen My joined the workshop with her partner to celebrate their anniversary on Valentine’s Day.

“We were looking for a meaningful activity to do together, and I love baking also,” My explained.

“With this kind of workshop, we can bake for each other, as well as learn a new recipe to bake for my family and friends.”

Meanwhile, Duong Thi Hong Hanh expected to learn basic baking techniques from the workshop.

“I want to bake for my husband and parents,” she said.

“This is much more meaningful than buying a cake from the store because I spent my time and effort on it.

“Even though baking it myself doesn’t make it cheaper, or more delicious, I believe the cakes I bake are more valuable.”

In the future, Ngan expects to run weekly workshops featuring a wide range of pastries and cakes, including Craquelin, Swiss rolls, cupcakes, red velvet, and more.

The class plans to recruit only around four to ten attendees, allowing the instructor enough time to assist learners with their products.
