The inaugural Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) started in Da Nang City, central Vietnam in the presence of many international and Vietnamese guests and movie stars on Tuesday evening.

The festival is being jointly held by the Vietnam Association for the Promotion and Development of Cinema, authorities of Da Nang, and the Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema.

DANAFF aims to recognize and honor outstanding Vietnamese and Asia-Pacific cinematographic works, promote them to the public, and foster the growth of emerging talents in the region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ngo Phuong Lan, director of the Vietnam Cinema Department, stated that the festival’s theme ‘DANAFF - Bridging Asia’ focuses on celebrating films that embody humanistic values, unique artistic expression, and new discoveries, while also encouraging new Vietnamese and Asian talents in the industry, and presenting valuable works from Asian and Vietnamese cinemas as well as selected global films to audiences.

Visitors to the festival can enjoy the public screening of 89 films free of charge, a three-evening outdoor film screening, and a series of workshops on the development and cooperation of the cinema industry.

It also offers tours to local sightseeing spots for foreign participants.

Additionally, the festival will feature 12 to 14 films competing in the Asian film category, with grand prizes for best movie, director, actor, actress, and screenwriter.

The event will continue until May 13, with the awards ceremony and the closing ceremony taking place concurrently.
